Contemplative Circle: Reflecting on our Inner Life (drawing on Parker Palmer’s bestseller, A Hidden Wholeness: The Journey toward the Undivided Life) is a place to explore one’s inner life with others through readings, poems, symbols, story and conversation.
“The underlying foundation for a circle of trust is that we trust the inner teacher, the inner light
of another person to guide them from within. Guidance cannot come from outside of a person. So the group must hold you faithfully in a space where you can listen to your inner teacher.” ~ Parker J. Palmer
“Before I can tell my life what I want to do with it, I must listen to my life telling me who I am.” ~ Parker J. Palmer
Drawn from ancient and contemporary wisdom, it is a deeply spiritual approach to identifying our ‘inner landscape’.
Throughout the year our outer landscape, such as ocean, mountain, desert, forest and the seasons will be used as metaphors and images of our inner life.
Parker Palmer is an author, educator and activist who focuses on issues in education, community, leadership, spirituality and social change. He has developed a unique approach to exploring the inner life through poetry, story, symbol, the seasons, nature & sacred presence. As a Quaker, he has explored the power of both silence and action within life. His book A Hidden Wholeness: The Journey toward the Undivided Life has become a groundbreaking bestseller and a guide to those wanting a fuller and richer life.
The Circle of Trust encourages participants to appreciate silence; practice the art of listening; see the importance of paradox; the value of our sense of vocation (secular and religious); and appreciate the rhythms of life.
